Goo Goo Dolls
Walnut creek amphitheatre- RALEIGH, NC
JUly 8TH, 2014
I have always wanted to see the Goo Goo Dolls since "Iris" and "Black Balloon" were some of the first songs I purchased on my first generation Ipod Mini. So to be able to see them live and cover the event, was a dream come true. I talked to Robby of the Goo Goo Dolls last week [READ HERE] about what I should expect on their summer tour with Daughtry and the Plain White T's. He told me to expect lots of flashy lights. I knew he was telling the truth, but as I waited in the photo pit area, I was amazed at how many lights there actually were. There had to be over 100 different kind of lights on their stage. They even had "disco ball" lights set up in the stairs of their platforms, while they had light up screens behind them with lights coming down at every different angle. However, the lights were no distraction to the Goo Goo Dolls' stage performance. Between John and Robby's stage banter about how John spent $10 on a pair of shoes, because he is and I quote "a f*cking rock star", and then Robby having the time of his life on stage. Their performance was truly magical. In my opinion, the set list was spot on due to their wide variety of songs off of their 10 albums throughout the years, to mixing their classics in between. Last night I discovered that the thing I love about watching the Goo Goo Dolls live, is that yes, they are indeed "rockstars", but without the ego. This show is a must see concert this summer.
