INTERVIEW: Broad Connection
/Check out our interview with Broad Frequencies to find out about the album, and how Broad Connection got started. Frequencies will be out on April 18th! Album art is below:
For anyone who hasn't listened to you guys yet, how would you describe your music?
We have a very organic 90's feel. We have been told it brings nostalgia to the listener if you grew up in the 90's or early 2000's.
What makes you unique verse all of the other bands in your genre?
It depends on the listener but we bring a certain mix of fun and deep ideas that can make our music easily end up on replay.
The thing that is unique about us is the fact that we don't particularly stick to one style of music. We enjoy anything with good vibes that tells a story that the listener's can relate to. For example, the song "Firework" on the album, is written about a good friend of our who passed away. Along with having an album full of big chorus' and catchy riffs, we decided to strip it down for that song and make it 1 acoustic guitar, a violin, and a simple vocal melody with nothing else in it. Depending on the mood of the day, results in the outcome of the song.
How did Broad Connection get started?
Vinny and I (Jeff) met in High School through our friends and they thought we could probably write some good music. We got together a few times and within a couple years we finally decided to sit down and begin to write a CD.
We actually both were in the same band at different times, I originally played in a band called All Purpose Hero, and upon my leaving, Jeff replaced me (ironic). We knew of each other in passing but never really hung out too much. When Jeff was playing with them, I started a band called Attention! Attention! and pursued music with them for a few years. When all of us started hanging out again (both bands were full of mutual friends) Jeff and I found ourselves separating from the group and having a blast writing together, mostly during random nights of drinking and just writing for fun. It didn't take much more than a few beers and a few enjoyable songs for the Broad Connection to be born.
What made you want to be in a band?
Well we didn't really plan on starting a band, we just wrote a couple songs for fun and that's really what made us want to be in a band. The amount of fun we had and after people heard our songs and saw how much fun we were having at parties and such...they started telling us we should actually record a CD. Since it was fun for other people and not just us, we decided it would probably be a good idea to get in the studio and record a few songs.
Currently you guys are working on a 12 song album, can you tell us a little more about it?
Well after receiving such good feedback from our live performances at parties, we decided to hit the studio. The actual recording of the CD was awesome. We went in to record 5 songs originally. After hearing a few rough mixes of these songs we knew we had to write a few more songs for the studio. A couple of months later we went back to record four more songs...Again after hearing a few mixes we figured a full length would be awesome, especially for a first CD. So Here we are now with 12 songs total and ready to release the CD.
Do you have a favorite song on the album? Was there any specific influence behind it?
Personally I really enjoy the song Beautiful Girl. The name would be rather misleading if you haven't heard the song yet. The song is actually about a beautiful girl that is just that...She's beautiful but only on the outside. She ruins every day and actually ends up putting a guy in the hospital. It really shows our comedic side to our writing style and is a really easy song to dance to and enjoy. -Jeff
My favorite song is "Skin and Bones", without hesitation. This songs message is basically about being one with yourself, and not being afraid to gives things a chance; At the end of the day, we are all living this life for one reason. This song is open for interpretation, which makes its story different for every listener. -Vinny
Do you have a release date for your album yet?
We are going to release the CD sometime before summer 2014.
Are there any tours in the mix for Broad Connection this year?
We don't have anything planned currently. Since the creation of our band we let the fans reaction define our next steps. If we get a good reaction from this CD and people really would like to hear us play in their cities, we may have a tour in the future.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
You can check out two of our songs on www.facebook.com/BroadConnection and www.Broadconnection.bandcamp.com
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
