INTERVIEW: Izzy Malik

We got to talk to Izzy Malik about her self titled EP! Read to find out what song she dedicated to Harry Styles, and what her favorite part of making the EP was.

For anyone who hasn't listened to you yet, how would you describe your music?

I’d describe it as pop with a dash of country. Also, a couple of tracks have a bit of a reggae or rock feel.

What do you think makes you stand out from every other musician in your genre? 

Ever since I was a little kid, going back all the way to (my parents say) before I was talking, I tapped along and hummed to music. It’s been in my heart and soul forever. As I started growing up, all I wanted to do was perform or sit and write songs. I would pretend to be in concert performing. From first grade onwards, I started getting voice lessons. The duration and intensity of my passion for music has been undying and constant. As I grew up further, I started taking great interest in going to live shows and seeing my favorite artists perform. I loved the interaction between them and the audience; it inspired me further. All I could think about was being on the other side. Attending shows and being a big supporter of many of my favorite bands and musicians, I saw life from another perspective, music-wise, that of the audience/fan, which made me value the fact that I am now a performer myself all the more.

You put out your self title EP back in March. What was your favorite thing about making the record?

My favorite thing was definitely the recording process itself. I love singing and it was so amazing to bring to life songs that were thus far only in my head.

What would you say is your favorite song off the album about why?

Probably “Just Another Boy”. This would be because I literally dreamt the song and rushed to write it as soon as I woke up. The dream was about me and Harry Styles, so I dedicated that song to him. He is one of my biggest musical influences, as he is true to his art and down to earth.

You put out a couple of YouTube covers lately. What do you think is going to be your next cover video?

My next cover video is a very popular country song by the amazingly talented Hunter Hayes. The cover video was super fun to shoot and I am so excited to share it with everyone.

Are you planning any tours in the future?

Definitely! I’m dying to perform again and can’t wait to hit the road!
